Il mwbacionodonte (gen. mwbqmwbgCionodon) è un genere di mwbwdinosauri mwcaerbivori, appartenenti agli mwcqornitopodi. Visse nel mwcgCretaceo superiore (85 - 65 milioni di anni fa) e i suoi resti fossili sono stati ritrovati in mwcwNordamerica e in mwdaAsia.

Classificazione

Questo dinosauro è noto solo grazie a frammenti mwdwfossili, ed è stato descritto per la prima volta da mweaEdward Drinker Cope nel mweq1874. La mwegspecie tipo, mwewmwfaCionodon arctatus, è stata ritrovata in mwfqColorado in strati del mwfgMaastrichtiano superiore, e fu quindi uno degli ultimi dinosauri vissuti. I resti comprendono parte di una mwfwmascella, due mwgavertebre dorsali, un frammento di un'mwgqulna e un mwggmetatarso parziale.

L'anno seguente Cope descrisse un'altra specie, mwhaC. stenopsis, sulla base di un'altra mascella parziale ritrovata in mwhqAlberta (mwhgCanada) in strati più antichi (mwhwCampaniano, circa 75 milioni di anni fa). Nel mwia1931, invece, Anatoli Riabinin descrisse la specie mwigC. kysylkumensis, proveniente da terreni del mwiwTuroniano/mwjaConiaciano (circa 85 milioni di anni fa) e basata su alcuni resti comprendenti una mwjqmandibola parziale, alcune vertebre e una mwjgtibia.

Non vi è alcuna prova che queste ultime due specie appartengano al genere mwkaCionodon, dal momento che gli scarsi resti fossili non permettono alcuna classificazione approfondita. Lo stesso mwkqCionodon arctatus è considerato un mwkgmwkwnomen dubium poiché i resti non presentano caratteristiche rilevanti (mwlaautapomorfie) tali da classificarlo in un genere a sé stante; è attualmente considerato un qualche tipo di dinosauro a becco d'anatra (mwlqadrosauro), forse identico al genere mwlgmwlwThespesius, anch'esso imperfettamente conosciuto.
